Mental Health Resources

Although our primary goal is to educate our students with rigorous academics, research indicates the importance of the whole child and ensuring social and emotional learning take the forefront in our classrooms. While we are not mental health providers, we do believe that our priority is equipping students with the skills to cope when things become difficult.

In our schools, we are providing the following supports:

  • School Counseling- AESD counselors are able to provide check-ins with students, mobilize support for classroom teachers and students, and conduct risk-screenings for any students who exhibit signs of harm to self and/or others. School counselors also provide classroom lessons to teach resilience, self-advocacy, and implementing executive functioning skills instruction.
  • Social Emotional Learning- Teachers are working with students by providing lessons and strategies on Social Emotional Learning. These strategies include: self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, relationship skills, and social awareness.
  • Mental Health Specialists- We have a partnership with community-based mental health providers (Care Solace, Desert Mountain Children’s Center, and Victor Community Support Services) to support our students/families with targeted counseling services. In addition there is a crisis walk-in center, Valley Star Crisis Walk-in Center that services students/families in crisis 24/7.
