- Open Microsoft Edge: Locate the Microsoft Edge icon on your taskbar or desktop and double-click it to launch the browser.
- Access Settings: Navigate to the upper-right corner of the Edge window. You'll see a button with three dots (...). Click on this button to reveal a dropdown menu.
- Select Settings: Within the dropdown menu that appeared, choose the option labeled "Settings." This will open the Microsoft Edge settings menu.
- Navigate to Default Browser: When the Settings tab opens, expand the window until you see the Settings sidebar on the left. Click on the option labeled "Default Browser" within this sidebar.
- Enable IE Mode: In Default Browser settings, locate the “Internet Explorer Compatibility” section. Under this section, find the option labeled "Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode." Use the drop-down menu next to it and select "Allow." Finally, click the "Restart" button to restart your Microsoft Edge browser with IE mode enabled.
- Restart your browser if necessary.
- Use IE Mode for Specific Sites: After Edge reloads, browse to the website you’d like to load in Internet Explorer mode. To switch to IE mode for that specific site, click the ellipses (three dots) button in the top right corner of the window and select “Reload in Internet Explorer mode.”
- Edge will reload the site in the Internet Explorer engine, and you’ll see an Internet
Explorer icon in the left side of the address bar reminding you that you’re in IE mode. -
Set Specific Sites to Always Open in IE Mode (Optional): If you’d like to permanently open a certain website in IE mode, there are two options:
- From the Address Bar: While on the website you want to always open in IE mode, look for the IE logo appearing in the address bar. Click on the logo and a prompt will appear. Enable the switch beside “Open this page in Internet Explorer mode next time.”
- From Settings: Alternatively, you can access Settings again by clicking the three dots menu and selecting "Settings." Then, navigate back to "Default Browser" and locate the option “Add.” Click "Add" to open the "Add a Page" dialog. Here, type in the complete address (URL) of the site you want to always use in IE mode. Once finished, click "Add" to confirm.
- Enjoy Compatibility (But Use With Caution): From now on, that website will always load in IE mode for compatibility purposes. Important Note: Due to potential security risks, Microsoft recommends using IE mode only as long as absolutely necessary. Consider transitioning away from websites that require IE mode whenever possible.
